It’s a great time for lovers of the written word.
While I prefer old-fashioned, corporeal tomes, there is an expanding set of options for reading a good book. Snuggle up with an e-reader. Listen to an audio book in your car or on a walk. If you’re lucky, just wait for your favorite story to come out as a series on one of the many streaming services available.
Seems we just can’t get enough. So maybe it’s also a good time to tell a story.
I offer you Dear Clara: The story of a shattered family.
Click through my links to learn about this tale of a single mother and the heart-breaking choices forced on her in the America of a century ago, a time before any semblance of a social safety net existed. Find out about the actual family event that inspired the story, and how I came upon a treasure trove of letters that helped me fill in much of the tale. And read about Frank Hall, the actual historic figure who stepped in with the best of intentions to keep his charge safe, yet who was unable to repair the trauma her entire family endured.
